Program

Description

Passionate about travel and culture?

Let your Odyssey begin by becoming a language assistant! Odyssey is a full-time work experience that gives you the opportunity to live in another province, share your culture, and make a difference in the lives of young people in your host community.

Your Odyssey

You will receive a taxable salary of $18,500 (approximately $20 per hour) for the nine months of your Odyssey work term.

Odyssey gives you the opportunity to lead language activities — in English — in an elementary, secondary, or postsecondary classroom to support the teacher.

From the beginning of September through to May 31, you will work 25 hours a week helping young people who want to learn English and discover anglophone Canadian culture.

Key Facts

  • You’ll leave your home province or territory to work in a rural or suburban area in another province.
  • You could receive allowances* for two return trips between your home province or territory and your assigned community. These are lump-sum allowances and may not cover all your expenses.
  • You’ll take part in a compulsory pan-Canadian training session for the program in Quebec City in August, which will help equip you for the Odyssey program.
  • The Odyssey program may be considered an internship. If you are continuing your studies, you could receive credits for Odyssey. Check with the institution to which you would like the credits to be transferred.

* One of these allowances is taxable.
